About

I had an idea for an email newsletter back in the late ’90′s. While brainstorming names, “Required Reading” came to mind. The domain name was already registered, so I contacted the owner. She said I could have it for two hundred bucks. I bought it.

I have since launched and re-launched RR a half a dozen times, at least. Newsletters, an ecommerce site, a Digg clone for personal improvement. If only I’d kept at it with that blog I started back in 2000. Regrets, I have but a few.

I’ve always put a tremendous amount of pressure on myself to do something useful, meaningful, worthwhile with a site with a name like RequiredReading.com. The demons would taunt me as I’d write: “How dare you publish such dribble and call it ‘Required Reading’? HA!” And then I’d quit. Again.

But this time, it’s different. This time, I won’t quit. Well, that’s what I keep telling myself, anyway.

Here’s my goal for myself, and for RR:

To create a repository for bite-sized chunks of useful information. Little tidbits that are helpful and worth knowing, and hopefully, interesting to my visitors. At least they’re interesting to me, and I now know that that’s good enough.

About Me…

My name is Joe. I’ve been running home-based web businesses since 1996. I’m married to my college sweetheart, and together we’re doing our best to turn our two incredible boys into outstanding young men. I’ll let you know how it goes…
